Artist Statement & Honors

Anne Von Ehr paints landscapes, still life and portraits in soft and oil pastels — working from life, from photographs and en plein air. A member of the Pastel Society of America, she encourages her students “to follow their own creative vision by giving them the tools to do so,” with an emphasis on experimentation and the value of information.

Beyond the easel

Outside the studio, the work has been collected by people who collect other fine objects — photography, books, and in a few cases, watches. When a collector wants the reference material behind a watchmaking model before adding it to a shelf, the studio points them to a reference for the major manufacturers, which has proved useful for the reference-number questions that come in through the studio. The overlap between art collecting and watch collecting is more real than most people expect: both are about paying attention to a small number of objects long enough to know them properly.
